I got to see HECTV produce a live broadcast. It was so cool because I got to see what it was like to make a live show. I got to work with producers and directors and watch the control room. I also got to look around the school it was filming in and the studio was so amazing. They even had a radio studio. I loved being able to see the show happen in front of my eyes. It was like our morning announcements on a major scale and I loved it

I did a PSA on how words can hurt a persons attitude and emotion. It is often said that words cant effect a person but in reality it the words that people say about us that take the longest time to heal. So i wanted to show that. This project was different for me because I started using the green screen and I used some new effects and transitions. I liked experimenting with the possible backgrounds and I cant wait to put some new things in my videos.
The basics are key. To enhance my videos Mr G and Mrs D had us practice our 19 basic shots and choose our six favorites. Practicing the shots after almost a year made me realize all the possible shots I can use in a video. My Favortie Six: Extreme Angle: This extremely low angle make for a great clip if the goal is show dominance and importance of a character. Low Dramatic shot: I like this shot because as the name implies it makes the character seem more dramatic. The subject seems more important and in a dramatic seen it's used for the person you want viewers to root for Extreme Close up: This shot is better than a close up because you can show so much emotion with an extreme close up. It also is great for showing specific things, like maybe on a phone case or a small detail that viewers need to see. Birds Eye View: This shot is perfect for showing a scene from above, providing a different perspective than a typical wide shot, or medium shot. Point of View: This clip is used for showing what a character sees, providing a first person account of a situation which is really cool if you want someone to see an event from a certain person. Pull Back Reveal: I love this shot because its an easy shot to use for irony, its possible to be focused on a character and zoom out and they could dangling over a cliff and that unsuspecting setting is the best part I am now a published producer. Isn't that a sentence. Through my school's broadcast tech class I have the opportunity to send my videos to an educational site called HECTV, and submit them for their live broadcastings about different topics. In October they are running a feature on kindness and I decided I wanted to make a video for that feature, after 2 long weeks of working I finished my video finally. From there I sent it in and got some feedback to improve my video. I made some changes and BAM! I'm now gonna have my video featured in a live broadcast in October. Now I'm entering a new contest and can't wait to film for that.
I am back in Broadcast Tech and I'm so excited to turn my summer's worth of video ideas and bring them to life. My first project this year was to cover the eclipse as a story. It was such a cool event and I decided that instead of some super science-y and serious cover of it I would make mine more lighthearted. I like things to be simple because simple=easy to understand and I want my videos to reach everyone. This year my goals are to make a music video, a short film and a video that tells a really deep story. Can't wait!
Today marks my final day of broadcast tech this year, and I can't say I'm happy about it. I took BTech because I thought it would be a super fun way to spend my time and I heard great things about it. Now that I have been in the class for 5 months, I can truly attest to how great this calss is. I realized I had a talent and desire to do videography, it's an easy to way to express creativity and tell stories. My favorite part was being a news reporter, I got to go out and capture film and interview, it was amazing. Then I came into the lab and got to edit my own footage and creat emy own stories. There was not a single thing I would have changed about my experience, maybe I would have carried around a reporter badge to be cool. I can't wait to continue videography in BTech2 and beyond! I highly recommmend taking any type of videography class, its easy to learn and very fun to do!
I got to take my school's walkout and turn it into a broadcast story! I felt like a real reporter as I stepped out with my camera and monopod! It was so cool to be able to film something so powerful and important to not only me, but my peers as well. I'm elated that I am able to share the finished project and hopefully bring awareness to it all and help speak for the voiceless. The editing process was so fun because I got to look through all the footage and listen to what everyone said and it was all so powerful and I hope my video is able ton convey the message that was sent at the walkout of peace and unity.
To learn about how to create a news story we have been studying the "Hey! You.. see.. so" story set up for journalism. In class we watched lots of videos that represent this form. I watched a video called the animal odd couple and it was great! My job was to analyze it for the HYSS form. I also watched one of Steve Hartman's "Everybody has a story"!
The Animal Odd Couple : https://youtu.be/cBtFTF2ii7U The "Hey": The loud elephant sounds and beautiful sanctuary. The you: The comparison of the friendships the elephants had to the ones us humans have. The See: The odd paring of the dog and elephant! The so: Animals get along with different people, why cant humans? Everybody Has a Story: Soul Food : https://youtu.be/Er4QmKxRYoU HEY: The bells and the small town scene and the personality of the character You: The values of her household that many families have See: The talk of her cooking and serving for other people in the community So: The need to give back that everyone should have Our assignment was to find a person we could get a story out of and to compose a proper interview. This by far was the most challenging project because in your head you think "Camera, Person, QUESTIONS!!!" but really you have to think of lighting, sound, location, what type of questions, are they comfortable, are you doing every thing right, OH GOLLY WHERE AM I!!!??? Overall though its great, i loved watching my interview back and just listening to the story that Claire told me and it was amazing to see how far my interview came from the first one I conducted.
I can honestly say that this is my favorite project to date. I had this crazy idea in my head and spent 3 days filming 6 shots and the project looked better than I imagined. The craziest part about this project was I ended up using more blooper shots than the shots I initially thought were good to go. I think it turned out amazing and I'm really proud of it. I wanted this project to send my message, that I own my life. I have spent so much time changing and evolving to be the person I see in my head and I feel like this project embodies everything I stand for.
